Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger welcomed the initiative of the foreign ministers of Russia, the US and France and the UN chief which puts Syria's chemical stockpile under UN supervision. Austria Press Agency (APA) quoted Spindelegger as saying that UN and Syria should act quickly, while the latter should not waste time, and hasten putting its chemical stockpile under the international supervision. Austria understands that international observers are exerting all possible efforts to examine samples collected from sites in which Syria used chemical weapons, he said. The final decision, in taking the proper measures against Syria on this matterto aimed at halting the use of such deadly weapons globally for the greater good, is in the hands of the UN Secretary General and the Security Council, Spindelegger added. He also welcomed a French draft resolution calling to present Syrian officials responsible for using these chemical weapons to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
