
Al-Azhar, Egypt's highest Sunni Islamic institution, achieved national reconciliation among rival factions in the Central African Republic (CAR), Al Azhar Shiekhdom said in a statement on Wednesday.
Coordinator of the Egyptian Family House Mohamed Gamea led Al Azhar delegation participating in the reconciliation efforts, the statement added.
All parties agreed to lay down their weapons and stop fighting in six areas in the CAR as well as allowing the establishment of all places of worship such as mosques and churches, the statement read.
Also, the warring factions went along with bringing about justice and equality between all citizens across the CAR and applying the law to all without distinction or discrimination, the statement underlined.
