Azhar imam, Polish ambassador discuss ways to promote cooperation

Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb on Monday received Polish Ambassador in Cairo Michal Murkocinski to discuss ways to promote cooperation.

The grand imam said Poland has a long history in culture, science and respect for religions.

He added that Al Azhar can provide scholarships to Muslims in Poland to study Islam.

Al Azhar developed training programs for clerics on ways to besiege the extremist ideology and confront contemporary challenges, el Tayyeb said.

He also expressed the hope an Azhar cultural center could be established in Poland to teach Arabic language and Islam's moderate culture.

For his part, the Polish ambassador said that his country appreciates the role of Al Azhar and its grand imam in spreading the proper Islamic thought.
