Azhar upset with Iranian interference in Bahraini affairs

Al Azhar expressed on Thursday rejection of Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain and other Arab countries.

In a statement, Al Azhar said the latest statements of Iranian Supreme Guide Ali Khamenei, that were made during Eidul Fitr holiday, are considered an unacceptable interference in Bahraini affairs and a flagrant violation of the independence and sovereignty of Bahrain.

They also contradict with good-neighborly principles called for by Islam, it added.

On Saturday, Khamenei said the nuclear agreement will not change Tehran’s foreign policies as he reiterated that they will continue to support the Palestinians, the governments of Syria and Iraq as well as the oppressed people in Yemen and Bahrain.

Al Azhar urged Iran to stop making such statements that only deepen hatred among peoples and states, create an atmosphere of tension and instability in the region and serve the enemies of Muslim world.

It also expressed solidarity with Gulf countries and support of any thing that would preserve their security and stability.

Following Khamenei statements, Bahrain summoned Iran's acting Chargé d’Affaires Mortadha Sanubari to protest against what it called a flagrant and unacceptable interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs.
