Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis criticized the EU on Monday, saying, " EU described the incident inEgypt as 'intervention'; however, this was not an intervention, this was clearly a 'coup'." Bagis said that (EU) countries, which could not describe the incident in Egypt as a coup, could not describe the savagery as savagery. "Some countries wanted to open the way of the pro-coups, but they understood that this was not correct. Because, one of the most important value of EU is democracy," said Bagis. Bagis stressed that to make a coup against a democratically elected president and repeal the constitution approved by the public were not compatible with EU values. Bagis pointed out that Turkey had given a principal reaction to incidents in Egypt after the coup, saying, "We have been waiting for EU to give the same principle reaction to the coup."
