The Bahraini Foreign Ministry summoned Sunday the Iranian charge d’affaires in protest of recent statements made by Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran will protect oppressed people in Yemen, Palestine, Bahrain and elsewhere in the region, Khamenei said.
Khamenei's remark is considered a blatant interference in Bahrain's affairs and run counter to the UN principles and the Islamic cooperation organization, said Bahraini foreign ministry undersecretary Abdallah Abdullatif.
Iran should not interfere in Bahrain's affairs, Addullatif said, adding that it is better for Iran to focus on its internal issues.
