
Minister of Human Rights Affairs, Dr. Salah bin Ali Abdulrahman, today received Ambassador Viktor Smirnov of the Federal Republic of Russian to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Human Rights Minister praised the solid and historic relations of friendship between the two countries in all fields, which have resulted in a number of visits of Bahraini officials to Russia. He pointed out to the ongoing reform steps at all levels, in line with the reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, that have brought about a quantum leap at various levels, in particular in the field of human rights through the introduction of human rights legislation and bodies. He asserted the government's resolve to continue the democratic reform process that requires synergy of the various components of the society in order to achieve a durable safe and stable life. He noted the Kingdom of Bahrain promotes the dissemination of the human rights culture, and the Bahraini society is distinguished with respecting the rights and duties within the framework of the rule of law, renouncing violence, adopting the principle of dialogue and tolerance and overcoming differences, respecting freedom of opinion and a culture as well as openness to others. He briefed the Russian Ambassador on the participation of the Bahraini delegation to the 24th Human Rights Council meetings, as well as meetings held with a number of diplomatic missions' ambassadors at the Office of the High Commissioner. The Human Rights Minister confirmed the people of Bahrain's rejection of foreign interference in Bahrain's interior affairs that aims to destabilize security, spread chaos and calls for to terrorist acts. The Russian Ambassador called for cooperation and coordination in all fields, in particular in human rights area, between the two countries.
