Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday invited the Security Council's five permanent members to his office at 10:45 (NY time) to discuss Syria and most probably the widely reported news that Joint Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi has resigned but effective end of May. Ban confirmed the meeting with the P5 - US, UK, France, Russia and China - but would not confirm that Brahimi has resigned. Brahimi, who was visibly frail when he briefed the Council on April 19, told reporters he thinks of resigning three times a day out of frustration because of the Council's division and the Arab League's unhelpful decision in late March to recognize the oppostion as the sole representative of the Syrian people.
