Ban Ki-moon appeals for time for UN inspectors

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the team investigating the chemical attack in Syria should be given time to conclude its inspections. Ban said on Wednesday that the UN experts were gathering valuable information by conducting interviews with eye witnesses and people who were affected by a chemical gas attack in which hundreds were killed on August 21. He appealed for a diplomatic solution regarding the Syrian conflict and called for dialogue between parties. UN inspectors resumed working on probing the chemical attack on Wednesday. The convoy that was carrying the UN experts came under attack while heading to the affected areas on Monday. One of their car broke down after being shot at. After replacing the car, the team visited intended destination. Syrian forces launched an attack against the civilian population, prompting an international outcry which forced Damascus to allow UN experts to visit the area to investigate claims of chemical weapons use.
