Ban shares UNSC concern over Yemeni transition process

Welcoming the Security Council's press statement on Yemen earlier this week, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon late Friday shared the council's concern on the Yemeni peaceful transition process, and affirmed that he supported the UNSC "readiness" to consider further actions against those aiming to sabotage the process A press released by the Secretary-General office said that Ban called on all sides in Yemen to participate in the National Dialogue "in good faith and to refrain from any obstruction of the transition process," strongly encouraging all concerned to resolve their differences through genuine dialogue, and urging them to continue to work closely with his Special Adviser Jamal Ben Omar. In an agreed statement to the press, Council President Liu Jieyi of China late Wednesday said the 15 members condemned the "reports of interference by those intent on disrupting, delaying or derailing the transition process and undermining the Yemeni Government," and reaffirmed their "readiness to consider further measures," meaning sanctions in diplomatic language, in response to any actions, by members of the former regime or political opportunists, that are aimed at disrupting the transition process.
