United Nations Secretary General voiced, in a phone call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, his concern at the still dangerous situation on the Ukrainian grounds.
The UN chief commended the leadership displayed by President Petro Poroshenko in efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, his press office said in a statement, issued late on Friday.
Furthermore, the Secretary General expressed hope the cease-fire, agreed to on February 12, in Minsk, would firmly take hold across the region. On the possibility of deploying a peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine, Ban informed the Foreign Minister that the United Nations would stand "guided by any decision the Security Council would make on this issue." Both officials agreed to continue their discussion on matters of mutual concern
