Bangkok peaceful after protest leaders talks with police

Peace prevails in Thailand's capital city Tuesday following negotiations between leaders of anti-government protesters and police, according to local media reports. After successful negotiations between the demonstrators' core leaders and the police, protesters were allowed to enter the Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) grounds on Sri Ayutthaya road today, the Bangkok Post reports. Core Protest leader Thavorn Senniam told demonstrators about the success of talks with police officers at the city police headquarters. The government had ordered police to refrain from confrontation to avoid more violence, according to a private news agency report that cited a Thai government spokesperson. Police cut the barbed wire and helped remove the concrete barriers to open the way for protesters. Tuesday's peaceful situation is in stark contrast of violence incidents witnessed Monday that left 119 protesters injured in clashes with police personnel around the Government House area, Bangkok Post said.
