The Bangladeshi police arrested militant leader of the banned Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) along with seven others here on Tuesday.
"Abu Talha Mohammad Fahim alias Pakhi, who is an acting chief of JMB, was nabbed early on Tuesday in Dhaka," said a Dhaka Metropolitan Police official who declined to be named.
He said the police also seized Islamic books, leaflets, CDs and many mobile phones.
DB Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam Tuesday morning held a press briefing at its media center where all the eight alleged militants including Fahim were presented before the media.
Islam said the militants said to have admitted plans for carrying out subversive activities against noted persons and organizations.
Bangladeshi police arrested another acting militant chief of the banned JMB Anwar Alam Khokon in the country's Bogra district in July last year.
