Tunisia’s Constituent Assembly President Mustapha Ben Jaafar on Friday met with a French parliamentary delegation headed by Elisabeth Guigou, chairman of the National Assembly’s external relations committee. The meeting discussed the political situation and democratic transition in Tunisia, particularly in the wake of the assassination of opposition leader Chokri Belaid. Ben Jaafar said the incident is significant for Tunisia’s path and invites for dialogue and consensus among political factions, so as to end the transitional period by planning a political map for the near future, with the upcoming elections on top. The French delegation expressed keenness on the democratic transition in Tunisia, stressing that its success will positively affect the region, a press release by the Constituent Assembly said.
