Speaker of the National Council (Upper House) Abdelkader Bensalah warned Friday in Tehran (Iran) against threats to stability and geopolitical balance at regional and international level. "We are facing huge and complex challenges today, including the deadlock reached by the peace process in the Middle-East and the current upheavals in the Arab world, which have undermined the geopolitical balance at regional and international level," Bensalah said in an address at the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit (NAM). The Algerian speaker expressed Algeria’s concerns over the latest developments in the Sahel region "and the dangers and threats they posed to security and stability in the region." For Bensalah, terrorism, arms trafficking, under-development and poverty worsen the vulnerable situation in the region.
