Boston fire chief quits after criticism over handling of bombings

Boston Fire Chief Steve Abraira, who was criticized over his handling of the Boston Marathon bombings, has submitted his resignation, the Boston Fire Department announced Monday on its Twitter account. The resignation is effective on Friday. In a letter last month to the mayor of Boston, 13 Boston deputy fire chiefs said they had no confidence in Abraira, and that he failed to assume command responsibility or show any leadership at the scene of the deadly bombings.
