UN envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said that the "Syrian opposition isn't ready" and therefore the upcoming international conference on Syria won't be held in July. In a statement before meeting Russian and US officials in Geneva on Tuesday, Brahimi said that he doesn't believe that the conference will be held in June since the opposition won't be ready by then. He called on regional countries and superpowers, particularly the US and Russia, to work to contain the situation which is getting out of hand, not just in Syria, but in the entire region. The positions of the US, France, Britain and a number of Arab and regional countries have hindered the conference due to them adopting policies that encourage violence and call for arming the opposition instead of pushing for a peaceful solution as per the Russian-US agreement and the G8 statement.
