Lakhdar Brahimi, the joint special representative of the UN and the Arab League for Syria, is to pay a two-day visit to China from Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei announced on Monday. "China values and supports Brahimi's coordination efforts in promoting a political resolution of the Syrian issue," state-run Xinhua News Agency quoted Hong as saying in Beijing. "China expects to have in-depth talks with him during his visit and will make joint efforts to advance the process of a political solution to the Syrian issue," the spokesman added. China, a veto-wielding permanent member of the UN Security Council, has repeatedly opposed foreign intervention in Syria's conflict and sanctions or pressure to solve the crisis.
