British Ambassador to Egypt John Casson met Sunday morning with Assistant Foreign Minister for Office Affairs Hisham Seif Eddin upon a request from Egypt's Foreign Ministry, the British Embassy in Cairo said in a press release on Sunday.
Casson will convey Egypt's concerns and reservations on the ambassador's remarks on Saturday's court rulings in the Marriott cell case to the ministers in London, according to the embassy. (MENA)
The British ambassador explained the UK's stance toward Egyptian court’s decision yesterday to hand down prison sentences for Al Jazeera journalists on the ground they broadcast false news and incited against the country, added the embassy.
It also said that statements were issued from London and Cairo yesterday regarding the ruling, especially that two British nationals were among the defendants who stood trial in the case.
