The British embassy in Kuwait has temporarily suspended services for security reasons, a statement posted on its website said Thursday. "As of Oct. 19, 2011, because of an increased threat toward the British embassy, we have temporarily suspended embassy services," the statement said. The embassy, located near the emirate's bustling Gulf road, also advised British organizations and businesses to review security measures in place. Terrorists continued to issue statements threatening to stage attacks in the Gulf region, with targets including residential compounds, military, oil, transport and aviation, the statement said. The embassy did not say when it would resume operations. Oil-rich Kuwait is a key partner of the United States and Britain and houses a U.S. military camp in the south of the country. In August 2009, Kuwaiti security forces busted a terrorist cell and arrested six Kuwaiti nationals who were planning a major attack on a U.S. military base in the emirate.
