
Buenos Aires was on Thursday elected to host the 2018 Youth Olympics, beating Colombia's Medellin and Glasgow in a vote by the International Olympic Committee, dpa reported. The IOC Session picked the Argentine capital on Wednesday to succeed Singapore (inaugural edition 2010) and China's Nanjing (2014). Buenos Aires won in a second round of voting 49-39 over Medellin after Glasgow went out in the first round with 13 votes (Buenos Aires 40, Medellin 32). Buenos Aires plans to spend 231 dollars on the third edition of the event which is to take place in 26 venues. "I would like to congratulate Buenos Aires and their bid team for their dedication to and enthusiasm for the Youth Olympic Games project," IOC president Jacques Rogge said, naming all three candidates excellent.
