Burkina Faso's security staff in detention centre started Thursday nationwide unlimited strike to demand better working and living conditions, Xinhua reporter witnessed on the spot.
"The work stoppage is purposed to demand that the Government to effectively implement decrees on pay grid and allowances." prison guards' national union (SYNA-GSP) said.
Prison safety officers argued that the strike is subsequent to a meeting with Justice Minister Rene Bagoro who "committed himself, without success, to submit the issue to the government".
"In response to the silence, there is only one option left: work stoppage over the country. This strike concerns all penal institutions of Burkina Faso," the union said.
Nevertheless, the minimum services will be ensured during strike period, except prisoners' escorting to Court, visiting permits and the transfer of new inmates.
