Burkinabe Movement for Human and People's Rights (MBDHP) on Tuesday called for the prosecution of the country's former President Blaise Compaore and his confidants for "treason."
The MBDHP made the appeal in Ouagadougou, nine months after a popular uprising in October 2014 that overthrew Compaore's government.
"The process that has been initiated by the transition parliament should follow its normal course and go to the very end, so that those who were culpable can be identified and be prosecuted for their actions," the movement said in a statement.
On Thursday last week, members of Burkina Faso's transition parliament initiated a process that will see Compaore and some of his confidants face prosecution at the country's highest court for "treason and violation of the Constitution."
MDHP criticized Compaore and his supporters for committing "acts of treason, violating the Constitution, use of force against protesters, embezzlement of public goods and corruption as well as assassinations and complicity in assassinations."
