Cambodia intensifies fight against sexual exploitation, human trafficking

Cambodian National Police chief Gen. Neth Savoeun on Monday ordered police officers to keep close eyes on suspected locations of human trafficking, specifically massage parlors, cafes, barbershops, karaoke parlors, guesthouses and other entertainment facilities, the National Police's website reported.

"The law enforcement officers must strictly carry out duties to suppress the crimes of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and labor exploitation in order to rescue the victims timely," he said during a meeting at the National Committee for Counter Trafficking.

According to a National Police's report, during the first six months of 2015, police had cracked down on 54 cases of sexual exploitation, arresting 70 perpetrators and rescuing 132 victims.

The police had suppressed 28 cases of human trafficking, netting 40 suspected traffickers during the period.
