Cameron: Duggan inquest must be respected

The lawfully killing decision of the jury into the inquest of the death of Mark Duggan, whose death by police sparked riots across London and other UK cities in the summer 2011,  must be respected says UK Prime Minister David Cameron. There was a fear that violence could break out after Wednesday’s controversial inquest decision.  The aunt of Mark Duggan, Carole Duggan called for no violence, she said, "No demonstrations, no more violence, we will have to fight this and go through the struggle peacefully to get justice." David Cameron said, “Any loss of life is always a matter of great regret, and I know how strongly people feel about that. “We have to be clear, we have to respect judicial processes in this country and we have to respect the outcome of trials and the work that juries do. I very much respect Mark Duggan’s aunt for saying they want pursue their case through the courts rather than on the streets; that’s absolutely right.” London mayor, Boris Johnson also commented on the verdict saying it was a ‘tragedy’ that Mark Duggan lost his life. He said, “On any given day highly trained Metropolitan Police firearms officers can and do face life threatening situations in which they have to make instant judgments under incredible pressure, and yet in the last four years, having responded thousands of times, they have discharged their weapons on just six occasions. “Londoners should feel assured that the police do an incredible job keeping this city safe. I am confident that the Metropolitan Police Service will continue to demonstrate the highest professional standards and after today's verdict continue to work closely with local leaders to strengthen the bond of trust between the police and the public they serve.”
