Central Africa PM unveils unity government

Central African Republic Prime Minister Nicolas Tiangaye unveiled a new national unity government on Sunday under a power-sharing deal with rebels, national radio reported. The formation of the government, which gives the opposition and rebels several key posts, comes after sometimes fraught negotiations following a January 11 peace deal that brought an end to a rebel offensive. The head of the Seleka coalition that launched the insurgency in December, Michel Djotodia, becomes defence minister and deputy prime minister. Tiangaye, who was previously in opposition, also takes the finance ministry portfolio. Seleka launched its offensive on December 10 in the poor and notoriously unstable nation before an accord signed in Libreville brought an end to the conflict. Seleka had accused President Francois Bozize on Friday of failing to abide by the peace deal by trying to keep the defence portfolio for himself.
