China, Indonesia call for efforts to maintain peace in south China sea

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping agreed that maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea represents a joint responsibility of the states in the region. China, Indonesia and other ASEAN countries should work together to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), enhance mutual trust, promote cooperation, and maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea, according to a joint statement issued here late Thursday. The two leaders agreed to work toward the eventual adoption of a code of conduct in the South China Sea, following the principles and spirit of the DOC.    President Xi Jinping went after the end of his visit to Jakarta to Malaysia for a similar visit before returning to the resort island of Bali in Indonesia to attend the Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit of the Asia - Pacific (APEC).
