Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday extended an invitation to South Korean President Park Geun Hye to attend a ceremony in China to mark the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II on Sept. 3, Kyodo News quoted South Korea's Foreign Ministry as saying.
Wang offered the invitation in a meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung Se in Seoul. The meeting was held hours ahead of the ministerial talks between Wang, Yun and Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.
Chinese President Xi Xinping made the war anniversary day also as the "victory against Japan" day, a day of remembrance added to the national calendar last year as part of a campaign to raise national awareness of war history.
