China rejects Japan's complaints over UN chief's attendance at military parade

China on Tuesday rejected the Japanese complaints over UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's plan to attend this week's huge military parade in Beijing marking the end of World War II, the Yonhap reported.

Ban is among about 30 heads of state that will attend the military parade on Thursday. Japan has complained over the planned attendance of Ban, saying the UN should remain neutral.

Asked about the Japanese complaints, China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying repeated Beijing's stance that the Thursday event is not taking aim at an anti-Japan agenda.

Describing the Japanese complaints as "vexatious," Hua urged Japan to face up to its past history of aggression.

Many Western leaders are skipping the military parade amid China's increasingly assertive military actions in disputed seas, including the South China Sea.
