China's chief executive promotes Hong Kong in Chicago

China's Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying promoted Hong Kong as a super-connector to link up the mainland and other places during his visit in Chicago.

Leung said this could bring business opportunities to the United States, according to the Hong Kong government website on Friday.

Leung concluded his Chicago visit on June 11 (Chicago time) where he met with University of Chicago President Professor Robert Zimmer and talked with the institute's Booth School of Business Dean Professor Sunil Kumar.

Leung also attended a lunch with members of the Hong Kong- United States Business Council and the board of World Business Chicago, during which he highlighted the latest developments in Hong Kong that will help U.S. companies realize the opportunities in Asia.

In his luncheon speech, Leung noted Hong Kong has become and will continue to develop its role as a super-connector between the mainland and the rest of the world because it offers the combined advantages of "one country, two systems".

"We have a separate and different legal system. We have a separate and different judicial system. We have the Court of Final Appeal in Hong Kong. So ultimate jurisdiction is within Hong Kong. "

"We have a separate currency system which again is distinct from the Renminbi used on the mainland. And Hong Kong has been leveraging on these differences to be of service to both the country and the world," he said.

Leung added that for Hong Kong to play the super-connector role well, it is investing heavily in its infrastructure, telecommunications and transport systems.
