China's chief justice on Tuesday urged courts across the country to guarantee the public right of access to judicial information and supervision. Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People's Court, made the remarks during a conference on courts' news and publicity work. The courts should make information on the judicial system available to the public in a timely fashion in the era of new media and provide explanations if necessary to clear up public doubts, Zhou said. He urged courts to ensure just and honest rulings as well as effective enforcement so that all people are equal before the law. The courts should also be subject to public supervision and respond quickly to public concerns, the chief justice added.
