China's Xi finishes south Africa trip

Chinese President Xi Jinping finished a visit to South Africa, where he spoke of efforts to make "greater contributions to world peace and development." Xi then headed for the Republic of the Congo Friday, officials said. In Durban, South Africa, Xi attended the fifth summit of BRICS countries -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. Xi also met with South African President Jacob Zuma to discuss ways to enhance the a strategic partnership the two countries have had since 2010, Chinese officials said. During the summit, Xi said enhanced cooperation with other BRICS countries was a key priority on China's diplomatic agenda. "China will continue to strengthen cooperation with other BRICS countries in order to make the economic growth of BRICS countries more robust and our cooperation better structured and more productive," he said. "This will bring tangible benefits to people of all countries and make greater contributions to world peace and development." Xi's first trip since his election earlier in March also included visits to Russia and Tanzania.
