Chinese Middle East envoy Wu Sike said here Sunday that the national and people's interests should be put first while the legitimate demands of the Syrian people are respected regarding the solution to the Syrian crisis. At a press conference after meeting with Egypt's Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Mostafa Kamel, Wu said all sides in Syria should participate in its political process. China sticks to upholding the principles of the United Nations and the stance of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, Wu said, adding that China attaches great importance to the coordination with Egypt, an important regional country. Prior to his stop in Egypt, Wu visited Syria and Saudi Arabia and exchanged views with officials of the two countries. Wu held separate meetings Thursday with Syrian Vice President Farouq al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, during which he "deeply exchanged views with them" and "expressed hope that the Syrian government will accelerate the reform process."
