Chinese navy ship carrying 10 evacuees from Yemen arrives in Oman

Chinese navy ship Weishanhu carring 9 Chinese nationals and one Japanese evacuated from restive Yemen arrived at Oman's Salalah port on Tuesday morning.
The nine Chinese nationals, including seven medical workers and two tourists, evacuated from Yemen' largest Socotra island and will travel back to China by flight later.
The navy supply ship, Weishanhu, which had been carrying out escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters, was dispatched for the evacuation on Tuesday.
Socotra, a very isolated island, lies some 240 km east of the Horn of Africa and 380 km south of the Arabian Peninsula.
Due to the worsening security condition in Yemen, a total of 629 Chinese nationals and 279 foreign citizens have been successfully evacuated in four operations aboard Chinese vessels from Yemen since March 29.
Security sharply deteriorated in Yemen since early March when conflicts erupted in the country's southern regions. The Shiite Houthi group launched attacks on Aden city, which Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi declared as temporary capital after he fled weeks of house arrest by the Houthis in Sanaa.
A Saudi-led coalition started airstrikes on Houthi targets in Sanaa and other cities, saying the multinational action was to protect Hadi's legitimacy and force the Houthis to retreat from cities it seized since September 2014.
