Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao on Wednesday met with a delegation from the Center for American Progress led by John Podesta, the center's chair. Li said during the meeting that China and U.S. leaders have confirmed the direction of developing bilateral ties and are determined to build a new type of relationship between the two countries. The two nations should adhere to the principle of pursuing harmony in diversity, seeking common ground while reserving differences, avoiding conflict and confrontation, and working toward mutual respect and a win-win result, Li said. He noted that communication between the two countries' think tanks provides an important channel for understanding between the two peoples and advised think tanks to research how to build a new type of China-U.S. relationship. Podesta said the Center for American Progress is willing to offer advice and suggestions on developing bilateral relations and enhancing mutual understanding. Dong Jianhua, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, also attended the meeting.
