Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday vowed to further cooperate with Britain as next year marks the 40th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties being established between the two countries. Xi made the pledge during a meeting with Lord Charles Powell, chairman of the British government's Asia Task Force and a business leader. In the coming five years, China will further its opening-up and reform progress, speed up the transformation of growth pattern, tap domestic and foreign demand, improve the efficiency and yield of foreign investment, and encourage Chinese companies to invest abroad, Xi said. He urged China and Britain to enhance mutual trust, expand cooperation in various fields and strengthen coordination on international affairs. Lord Powell, in his turn, said the British government will strengthen cooperation with China and expects for more achievements in China's development.
