Clancy selected as permanent director of US Secret Service

President Barack Obama selected Joseph Clancy, the interim director of the US Secret Service to remain as permanent director of the law enforcement agency that protects current and former national leaders in the US.
"Director Clancy has demonstrated the kind of leadership that frankly many of us expected him to demonstrate," said White House Spokesperson Josh Earnest to reporters on Wednesday.
"He is somebody that has, based on his long track-record with the agency, a lot of credibility built up inside the agency, and he used that credibility to put in place reforms that were recommended by this outside panel that DHS (Department of Homeland Security) Secretary Jeh Johnson had convened."
Clancy is a 27-year veteran of the agency and a former special agent in charge of the presidential protective division.
Previous Secret Service Director Julia Pierson resigned after two security breaches when a man with a knife entered the White House and when a man with a gun was allowed on an elevator with Obama.
