The Colombian army said on Monday that an attack carried out by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels killed a solider and injured three soldiers in Calamar municipality, in southeast of the country.
According to an army statement, rebels threw balloon bombs at the soldiers and then generated a strong combat against them.
"A heinous act was perpetrated by the FARC against the security force, by indiscriminate firing and use of war methods prohibited by the international humanitarian law," the army statement said.
The attack, attributed to FARC's Armando Rios Front, occurred for the first time during the unilateral ceasefire announced by the insurgent group last December amid the ongoing peace process with the Colombian government.
The Colombian government ordered on March 10 a month-long suspension of bombings on FARC rebel camps to decelerate the five-decade-old armed conflict in the country.
