Cote d'Ivoire promises maximum security during polls

Cote d'Ivoire authorities have promised to ensure there is "maximum" security during the forthcoming presidential elections, an official source said Monday.

The country's Defense Minister Paul Koffi Koffi said "everything had been done to guarantee a peaceful electoral environment."

"The presidential election will certainly take place on Oct. 25 even though some people are trying to spread fear in the country," Koffi said.

"Our officers are prepared for the elections and appropriate security measures will be taken at the opportune time," he added.

The minister reiterated the determination of the security forces to do everything possible to provide security in the country before, during and after the elections.

Most political analysts have observed that the elections will help to restore lasting peace in Cote d'Ivoire after the deadly 2010-2011 post-election violence that left 3,000 people dead.
