Czech not to take emergency measures over dead refugees in Austria

In reaction to the uncovering of 71 dead refugees in a lorry in Austria, Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said on Friday that the Czech Republic would not take any extraordinary security measures over the incident.

He said they would not take any special measures over it, he thought the system of tightened checks of immigrants focusing on lorries and coaches by increased police since mid-June is sufficient.

According to him, Czech police officers has discovered 1,870 refugees by the end of last week.

Chovanec said the death of the refugees is to blame on the criminal groups that operate all over Europe and hugely profit from smuggling migrants, adding they are fighting organised crime.

Chovanec said it can not be ruled out that a similar tragedy would happen again anywhere in Europe.

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said that the focus should be on inspections of trucks that pass through the borders of the areas where there is strong pressure from migrants.

At the same time European states should focus on the cause of the influx of refugees - the civil war in Syria.

He said European countries should sit at the negotiating table to discuss the problem, Russia, the Arab states and international organizations including the United Nations should also involve in.
