Dacic start of talks: Serbia wants to join EU in 2020

Serbia intends to become a member of the EuropeanUnion by 2020, Prime Minister Ivica Dacic said Tuesday, following the official launch in Brussels of his country's accession negotiations, dpa reported."This is the most momentous, the most important event for Serbia eversince the end of World War II," Dacic said."This is formulating the values we wish to implement, this definesthe society we want to have," he added. "From today onwards, Serbiabecomes formally part of an admission procedure which leads to the family of European nations."Serbia has been seeking to join the EU since 2009. It was officiallygranted candidate status in 2012, following progress in normalizingties with its breakaway province of Kosovo.
