Human Rights and Social Development Minister Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Balooshi today received Head of the European Delegation to the GCC Countries Luigi Narbone. She briefed the EU official on steps undertaken by the Government to implement the recommendations cited in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI) Report. She also stressed efforts to implement the Royal directives for BICI recommendations to see the light in the framework of a timed programme subjected to continuous review. Dr. Al-Balooshi stressed the commitment of the commission set up by the Government to utmost transparency, regularly posting implemented recommendations on a special website for all parties to be updated on the progress of the work. She explained to the EU official how Bahrain is seeking the assistance of Arab and foreign specialized experts so as it could honour its commitments, which reflects resolve to promote democracy and continue the march of development and nation-building unabated. "The door is open for human rights organisations and international watchdogs to get updated on implemented national projects", she said. She cited particularly the partnership coordinated between the public and private sectors which rallied together to launch the "One Unity" Campaign-an initiative aimed at promoting public awareness to the vital importance of national unity, the abhorrence of hate-mongering calls and divisive mantra. Dr. Al-Balooshi discussed with Mr. Narbone cooperation and agreed to step up contacts for the ministry to profit from EU expertise in the fields of human rights and social development.
