Geneva - BNA

The Kingdom of Bahrain affirmed that it would continue its move toward the protection of human rights via a national legal environment based on the sovereignty of the law and democratic practice. Moreover, all practices and policies are aimed towards serving people and the Bahraini society through strong cooperation with the United Nations. This was highlighted during speech delivered by Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr Salah Ali during a high profile meeting at the Human Rights council in Geneva. The minister also pledged Bahrain's support for the council's efforts related to encouraging and respecting human rights on the basis of its strong belief in the importance of a human's pride and value. Dr Salah also emphasized the fact that the Bahraini community was strongly and well-knit one in which freedom of religions and tolerance prevails. He stressed that there was respect for freedom of thought, opinion and openness among all. The minister said that all these characteristics were further bolstered and made tangible following the reform project of His Majesty the King in 2001 as part of the National Action Charter that receive a 98.4 percent vote on. Dr Salah stated that the in the Kingdom of Bahrain it was of great pride for all that the leadership and government is so transparent on all levels and means of resolving all issues. This he indicated was greatly reflected following the regretful incidents in 2011 when His Majesty the King ordered the setting-up of an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the incidents. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that 75 percent of the recommendations of the commission had been implemented. The Minister stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain would continue to cooperate with the Human Rights council to further bolster human rights practices.
