Dutch Advisory Council Warns Israel of Possible Attack on Iran

Speaking to FNA on Wednesday, Executive-Secretary of the Committee on Peace and Security of the Advisory Council on International Affairs Mark Waanders said that the advisory council has issued the "necessary warnings" to Israel against any possible aggression against Iran. "The advisory council has advised the government of the Netherlands to give Tel Aviv the necessary warnings about the dangers and consequences of a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities," Waanders added. He noted that such an attack will not leave any negative impact on Iran's nuclear program since Iran's facilities are fortified and underground. "In addition" Waanders said "such a military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities would mean an end to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection or in other word it would mean instability in the region." The Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV) of the Netherlands is an independent body which advises government and parliament on foreign policy, particularly on issues relating to human rights, peace and security, development cooperation and European integration. The remarks by Waanders came as the United States and Israel are pushing the international community for further pressures against the Islamic Republic over its civilian nuclear program. Israel and its close ally the United States accuse Iran of seeking a nuclear weapon, while they have never presented any corroborative document to substantiate their allegations. Both Washington and Tel Aviv possess advanced weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear warheads. Iran vehemently denies the charges, insisting that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only. Tehran stresses that the country has always pursued a civilian path to provide power to the growing number of Iranian population, whose fossil fuel would eventually run dry. Iran has warned that in case of an attack by either the US or Israel, it will target American bases in the Middle East as well as the US and Israel's worldwide interests and close the strategic Strait of Hormoz. An estimated 40 percent of the world's oil supply passes through the waterway.
