Egypt voted yes to the two resolutions, drafted by France and Russia and submitted to the United Nations Security Council, that called for reaching a truce in Syria especially in Aleppo city.
During a UNSC meeting that was held on Saturday, the council failed to approve any of the two resolutions in which Russia vetoed the French resolution while the Russian resolution failed to get the minimum nine "yes" votes required.
In a press release issued by Egypt’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Egypt's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Amr Abou el Atta said Egypt supports all efforts aiming to stop the Syrian crisis.
He added that the main reason behind failing to approve any of the two resolutions is due to disputes among the council’s permanent member states. He also condemned the council’s failure to take a decision that can help alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people and eliminate terrorism in Syria due to disputes among the council’s members.
