The Egyptian delegation to an open ministerial discussion at the UN Security Council on Friday asserted commitment to peace efforts in the African continent.
Emerging challenges in Africa, including the expansion of extremist groups, organized crime, immigration and environmental threats, require the development of a new approach to face them, the delegation told the meeting on peace-building in Africa.
Egypt called for establishing an effective strategic partnership among the UN, the African Union (AU) and other sub-regional organizations in Africa with the aim of expanding training programs, building national capabilities in the various domains.
Egypt’s participation in the meeting came as part of efforts to make use of its current UN Security Council membership to drum up political support for African issues.
