Month-long state of emergency has been declared across Egypt by interim president Adly Mansour. Emergency rule came into force 4pm local time (6pm Moscow time). Egyptian TV channels report that the state of emergency entails unbridled authority of the military and security agencies. At the same time, despite previous announcements, no curfew will take place. It is expected that emergency rule will not affect foreign tourists currently in Egypt. Decree signed by Adly Mansour notes that “due deliberate sabotage and acts of aggression against state and pirate enterprises by extremist groups and organizations as well as death of Egyptian citizens the national armed forces and law enforcements need to take necessary measures in order to guarantee national security, uphold the law, protect governmental and private property and lives of Egypt’s citizens.
