Egypt, Eritrea FMs tackle fostering mutual ties

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, currently on an African tour, met on Thursday with his Eritrean counterpart Othman Saleh to discuss fostering bilateral relations.

The meeting was also attended by Eritrean Presidential Adviser Yamani Jibrab, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Badr Abdel Atti said.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of important regional issues, including the Yemeni crisis, security in the Red Sea region and Horn of Africa region as well as the latest development in the Middle East.

Shoukry said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi assigned him to visit Asmara to underline the deep-rooted relations between the two African countries.

They also discussed means of boosting bilateral relations especially in political, economic, trade and counterterrorism fields.

On his turn, Saleh pointed out at Egypt regional and international political weight that qualifies it to play a crucial factor in achieving stability in the region.
