Egypt expresses deep concern about conditions of refugees in Europe

Egypt's Foreign Ministry on Friday expressed deep concern about the refugees' conditions in some European countries.

In a statement, the ministry urged countries hosting the refugees to shoulder their responsibilities and honor their international commitments to receive and accommodate refugees affected by the fragile security and humanitarian situation in their home countries, as stated in the international humanitarian law.

The ministry also called on the UN secretary-general and international bodies concerned to deliver on their pledges to those 'vulnerable crowds' of refugees who have fled their home countries in search for a safe life.

At least 12 Syrians trying to reach Greece recently drowned off Turkey after their boat sank.

An image of one of the victims - a young boy lying face down on the beach - has sparked an international outcry over the human cost of the crisis.

Thousands of migrants have died this year trying to reach Europe by sea.
