Egypt FM meets Romanian, Colombian, Iranian counterparts in New York

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held Thursday separate meetings with his Romanian, Colombian and Iranian counterparts in New York, where he is taking part in the UN General Assembly meetings.

Shoukry's talks with Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu tackled ways of boosting bilateral ties and preparations for the Egyptian minister's visit to Bucharest to hold a meeting for the two country's joint committee, the Foreign Ministry's spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Their meeting also touched on the Romanian-Spanish initiative to establish an international court for terrorist crimes.

Combating terrorism was the core point of Shoukry's talks with his Colombian counterpart Maria Angela Holguin, Abu Zeid said.

Holguin stressed her country's full support for Egypt in the challenges it faced due to terrorism.

The Colombian minister noted that her country had a long history of struggle against terrorism.

She reiterated her country's commitment to partake in and support the multinational forces deployed in Sinai.

They agreed on exchanging visits in the forthcoming period, the spokesman said.

In his encounter with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Shoukry discussed the recent nuclear deal with the world powers and its regional repercussions.

They also discussed the latest developments in Syria and suggestions for reaching a political solution.

The top Egyptian diplomat underscored his country's persistent desire for an effective Iranian role for supporting the regional stability and taking into account the requirements of the Arab national security.
